After
months of looking for a mannequin that was a bit different, I finally
found one just before christmas on ebay. I'm currently experimenting
with photographing some of my jewellery on 'the silver lady'...
she's a vintage 1960's mannequin, a bit shabby chic at the moment
as she could do with repainting. But, still think she's super cool
and am pleased with how my photographs are progressing.

December 2011
Last 2 months have just flown... I have been kept busy teaching;
doing my college classes, bebeady classes and also some beaded brooch
workshops at half-term for the Manchester Royal Exchange.
I've also had a stall at a number of contemporary art/craft events.
These have been a bit mixed in the current climate... generally the
ones I expected to do well at, were disappointing, but other events
that I didn't have very high hopes for, were better than expected.
Its been nice to end my events for 2011 on a high though, my jewellery
got lots of compliments at the Winter Arts Market in Liverpool!! |

Some gorgeous new wire colours have just arrived, so have been
busy making celtic, flower and spiral designs with them - amazingly
was able to sit in the garden making jewellery for the first time
in ages - the red and silver theme jewellery is for the 25th
guild anniversary exhibition which begins at the Gallery
at the Wharf in November. (see image red spiral earrings) |

An inspiring month... Had a lovely break visiting lots of roman
ruins, old churches and castles in the rain in Yorkshire. I spent
hours at the new York museum, they have some brilliant
exhibits, was especially enthralled with all the roman, anglo-saxon
and viking pieces (see image of decoration on the york helmet).
I've also been to visit the St Helens World of Glass,
and hadn't realised there was so much to see there and really enjoyed
spending a day learning about the history of glass and glass production.

Am currently experimenting with different colourways for the
autumn season; metallics, purples, oranges and shades of green...
they get their first outing at the Manchester
Royal Exchange exhibition which begins the 1st September
(see example below left). Also have just been up at the Dent
Show in Yorkshire, it really helped my moral, as my jewellery got
so many nice compliments and most of the brooches I made whilst
I was there, were really popular and sold straight away... |

Although I prefer sunny weather... the rain has given me an opportunity
to work on updating my bebeady website with some
new workshops and classes. As well as running my own classes, I also
teach some jewellery making classes at colleges and in the community.
Taster sessions in spiral making at Bleasdale Village
Hall on Wed 24 August and a recycled jewellery workshop
at the community space at the Wharf, in Burscough on Friday 16 September....

Am chuffed... my entry for the Platform Gallery Craft
Open Exhibition has been successful and two of my new designs
(see earring image) have been selected.
They are part of my latest design range, 'abstract
bead-fusion' - each one turns out different, unique,
a random abstract fusion of beads. There are some pieces
of the collection for sale at the Gallery at the wharf,
where they have been getting brilliant feedback, as they do look
gorgeous on. |

Been
an
absolutely manic month, so my plans to explore Northumberland
and go hiking had to be shelved... jobs such as painting windows
and paperwork instead! Also more enjoyable things as well,
attending painting workshops at the Centigrade kiln fired
arts Show, taking part in the Art and Craft Guild
exhibition at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool and
researching the Anglo-Saxons for some jewellery
making workshops. |

designing / printing leaflets and posters, liaising with friends,
the textile designers, Jane and Claire and the gallery, going up
to Kendal with Claire and setting up our first exhibition of work
and taking posters/leaflets to places around Kendal. Quite a few
late nights working on it and my jewellery pieces, but am really
pleased that its all come together and our first small exhibition,
looks great. Take a look, at a few pictures
